Their production is the island's specialty, recognized worldwide. It involves creating a pearl with a glass base artificially coated with natural mother-of-pearl.

For example, they symbolize love in Hinduism, perfection in Islam, purity in Christianity, and experience, wisdom, and power in various ancient and more contemporary cultures.
